Organize Nuts and Bolts To Save Your Sanity
You probably have more than one handful of hardware, such as nuts, bolts and nails, stored around your home. Get them together. Instead of shoving all of your miscellaneous hardware into a big old empty coffee can or mayo jar, try sorting them like this. The next time you need a nail or screw, it'll be organized and on-hand to make your job easier. Stackable storage bins are perfect for holding and organizing those hardware items that are slightly bigger than nails and screws.
One of the best sorters for the job is simply the ordinary see-through plastic compartmentalized box. You don't have to label anything because you can see everything right through the box. You can carry these compartment boxes with you to the job so you don't have to walk back and forth to get another tack or hook if the first one doesn't work. Stacks and Stacks sells the Hardware Compartment Box with 6, 12, 18 and 24 compartments. These particular boxes have sliding lids too. Buy as many as you need and keep them in a stack on a shelf in your garage near your tools. Got more or bigger hardware? Add a Utility Chest with drawers or a utility cabinet to your mix of hardware organizers. These set on a shelf. Stacks and Stacks sells a Tip Out Utility Cabinet too which offers better visibility of the contents. A word of warning though...put it in the middle of a secure shelf or work table, not somewhere it'll easily get knocked over by a family member (with two legs or four legs). Or you can usually mount these to the wall with sturdy screws on the back. Just make sure you secure it to the wall correctly and level (and preferably not somewhere you or your family will bump into it a lot and thus jar the drawers out). |
