You probably have more than one handful of hardware, such as nuts, bolts and nails, stored around your home. Get them together. One of the best sorters for the job is simply the ordinary see-through plastic compartmentalized box. You don't have to label anything because you can see everything right through the box. You can carry these compartment boxes with you to the job so you don't have to walk back and forth to get another tack or hook if the first one doesn't work. Buy as many as you need and keep them in a stack on a shelf in your garage near your tools.

A word of warning though...put it in the middle of a secure shelf or work table, not somewhere it'll easily get knocked over by a family member (with two legs or four legs).
